Taken 3
At the top of our picks for new Blu-ray releases is Taken 3 starring Liam Neeson and Dougray Scott. The film is now available from 20th Century Fox in a two-movie edition with both the theatrical version and new “Unrated” version. The edition includes both films on one Blu-ray Disc, as well as a Digital HD copy via UltraViolet. Video is formatted in 1080p at 2.39:1 aspect ratio, with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. Escape From New York Collector’s Edition)
Escape From New York is now available in a 2-Disc Blu-ray Collector’s Edition with film presented in a new 2k HD transfer from an inter-positive print struck from the original negative. Audio commentaries are also provided. The second disc contains five new featurettes including “On Set with John Carpenter: The Images of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK,” as well as previously released extras such as deleted scenes, theatrical trailers, and “Return to Escape from New York” featurette. Video is formatted in 1080p at 2.35:1 aspect ratio with DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio. List: $29.99 | Price: $18.99
Cake
And, 20th Century Fox has released the R-rated drama Cake starring Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, William H. Macy, and Sam Worthington. The 1-Disc Blu-ray edition includes a Digital HD copy redeemable with UltraViolet. Cake was written and directed by Daniel Barnz (Phoebe in Wonderland), and nominated for one Golden Globe. The film deals with suicide, loss, and forgiveness. A reviewer from Deadline calls Aniston’s performance in Cake Oscar-worthy. List: $29.99 | Price: $14.99
