‘Interstellar’ IMAX Film Cells Have Collectors Scrambling

The limited release of Interstellar Blu-ray combo packs with included 70mm IMAX film cells has created a secondary market for the collectible pieces, with some individual cells selling for over $100 on eBay. The more desirable the film cell is seems to have something to do with the characters, the shot, or the rarity of the scene itself. Cells featuring Matthew McConaughey or Anne Hathaway are going for about $20 a piece, while more dramatic, planetary shots with space ships seem to be going for about $30 to $40. A certain scene that features the black hole known as Gargantua (what one collector called “highly coveted”) is currently at $102 with one day left to bid. A few eBay sellers are pricing themselves out of the bidding wars, however. For example, one seller is asking $149.95 for a cell of the Spaceship Endurance rotating in space. Another cell of the Endurance with a view of Earth is priced to buy at $179.95. For the most part though, Interstellar film cells are ranging from $5 – $20 each. So you may be able to get your favorite scene for the price of a cappuccino (just beware of high shipping charges). Jump over to eBay to see what other Interstellar IMAX film cells are available.
