The PlayStation Now game streaming service will launch for select Samsung Smart TVs in the first half of 2015, Sony announced. The service will give Samsung Smart TV owners in the US and Canada access to download PS3 games from the cloud, via the Samsung Smart Hub. The games will be playable with DualShock 4 controllers, and features like in-game trophies, online play with friends, and pause and resume play on different devices will be available.
With PlayStation Now, games can be rented by the title or as part of an upcoming subscription service. Titles currently range in price from $1.99 to $19.99.
One difference between PlayStation Now and traditional disc and download service is that game progresses are saved to the cloud. However, the major difference is that PlayStation Now users don’t even need a PlayStation console to play games.
“PlayStation Now provides a new dimension to Samsung Smart TVs that consumers have been looking for – blockbuster PS3 games accessed through an intuitive interface that makes it easy to discover and play great gaming experiences,” said Youngchan Kim, Vice President at Samsung Electronics.
First introduced at CES 2014, PlayStationNow is already available on PS4, PS Vita and PS TV in Open Beta mode with over 150 PlayStation 3 titles available to play.
