In what will be its third and final season, HBO has renewed original series The Newsroom starring Jeff Daniels as anchorman Will McAvoy. The HBO drama, premiering first in 2012, is centered on Daniels’ character and the staff at a nightly cable-news program. The Newsroom was nominated for two Golden Globe awards (including Best Television Series – Drama, and Best Actor (Jeff Daniels) in a Television Series – Drama). The show boasted viewership of over 2 million viewers. Show creator Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing, Moneyball, The Social Network), will write the upcoming episodes (of which we have no exact number, but previous seasons included 9 or 10 episodes). Executive producers Alan Poul and Scott Rudin will be joined by Paul Lieberstein (The Office) to produce the new season. The series also stars Olivia Munn, Emily Mortimer, and Sam Waterston. New episodes of The Newsroom are expected to air this fall on HBO.
