Over the weekend AT&T launched BBC America in high definition (1080i) on U-verse Channel 1188. BBC America was already available to U-verse subscribers on channel 188, but only in standard definition (480i). The channel will only live for a short time on Channel 1188, however, as AT&T plans to move BBC America and BBC America HD to Channels 122 and 1122, respectively.
BBC America carries both British and American original television series such as Copper, Doctor Who, and Orphan Black. Upcoming shows on the channel include the 13-part fantasy/adventure series Atlantis, the four-part drama Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond about James Bond creator Ian Fleming, Season 6 of the reality show Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, and the upcoming series The Musketeers set in seventeenth century Paris.
BBC America will also celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who with a worldwide global simulcast of the special “The Day of the Doctor” on November 23.
BBC America is offered in AT&T’s U-200 and U-300 packages with the optional “HD Technology Fee” add-on service that costs $10 per month. The channel is automatically included in high definition with AT&T’s top-tier U-450 service package.
