One should be careful though, streaming TV shows over AT&T’s 4G LTE network may wring up some serious data usage charges, especially since AT&T stopped offering unlimited data plans a few years ago.
The new channel additions for mobile devices are part of AT&T’s TV Everywhere initiative, a growing sector which has other cable and satellite TV providers expanding their services to multiple platforms.
Other channels among the 200 now available to stream live (inside your home) include A&E, Cooking Channel, DIY Network, HBO, STARZ Edge, Syfy, and Travel Channel among the networks. For a full list visit AT&T’s tablet TV guide (which appears to be valid also for iPhones).
Additional features of the AT&T U-verse App include:
- Thousands of on demand TV shows and movies.
- Extra content and information about the TV show you’re watching, including episode synopsis, photos, cast and crew information, related TV shows and more.
- A full-featured U-verse remote control with channel guide.
- Ability to control your DVR remotely.
- Advanced search functionality to help you find the content you want.
The AT&T U-verse app for Apple iOS devices was last updated on Sept. 29, 2013, and indicates the ability to watch Live TV as a new feature. The U-verse app for Android devices, however, was last updated June 17, 2013 and is not yet capable of the live TV feature. (Funny enough, AT&T’s press release mentions nothing about the lack of Android support.) Stay tuned for an update for Android devices, which we hope will be coming soon.
