Tired of seeing your recently watched shows mixed up with other family members? Netflix has reportedly been testing a solution on Apple TV which lets users pick a profile when multiple profiles are accessing the streaming service simultaneously. A screenshot provided to MacRumors shows a selection option between two members under the header “Who’s Watching Netflix?” The interface also allows the user to “Sign Out” of Netflix.
Netflix customers have long awaited the feature that was introduced at E3 this year. The profiles are expected to contain a user’s viewing history, recommendations, and personalized avatar. Personalized “Instant Queues” would also be a welcome addition. Profiles will also most likely contain parental controls, and could possibly open “Neflix for Kids” when a child is logged in.
Apple TV users cannot modify their profiles at this time. And, they’ll only see the option if profiles were set up for DVD rentals. Select Netflix subscribers with Apple TVs were given beta access to the new feature.
Netflix told MacRumors Profiles will be officially released for all Apple TV users later this summer. We’re not sure when/if the feature will be released on other platforms.
Netflix recently launched the personalized viewing assistant “Max” on the PlayStation 3 console that provides viewing recommendations according to a user’s interests.
