Why push buttons when you can just talk? Comcast has enhanced the X1 Remote voice control app for Xfinity TV services on the X1 platform. The new enhancements to the iOS app add the ability to communicate voice commands and questions such as “Show me comedies on Showtime,” or “When is the next Miami Heat game?” First launched back in 2012, the app for Apple iOS devices lets customers use voice commands to change channels by network name, search for titles, actors, sports teams. Another feature of the app lets customers search On Demand titles by category.
Comcast doesn’t appear to have released the app quite yet (Version 1.2 from Jan. 2013 is still the most recent in Apple’s App Store). But we’ll keep you posted when it does. Customers who own iPhones must be subscribed to Xfinity TV on the X1 platform to utilize the app.
Comcast says they are developing apps on the Android platform and traditional TV remote controls that also enable voice control.
