DISH Anywhere app update released for Android

DISH Network has released an update to the DISH Anywhere app that now lets Android users access On Demand titles. The Android device needs be running version 4.0 or higher, while the iOS app requires at least version 5.0. (The updated app for Apple iOS was released on May 8.) DISH says the On Demand content is accessible regardless of set-top-box model, as long as you have an internet connection. However, those looking to watch live TV or DVR recordings will need a Sling-enabled DVR. Another update to the app lets you stream in “Audio Only” mode, therefore allowing you to simply listen to a movie or TV show soundtrack without the video channel. [Editor’s note: Want to hear a great movie without watching it? Try Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. It’s a masterpiece in scriptwriting that’s as good without any visuals.] In addition, DISH’s updated ‘Anywhere’ app has integrated Facebook and Twitter features, letting you share your viewing favorites in real time with followers on those social networks. Existing app features include remote scheduling of DVR recordings, DVR content management, and programming search.
