Warner Bros to acquire Flixster/Rotten Tomatoes

Warner Bros will acquire Flixster and movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, the company announced today. Under Warner Bros, the movie website (which focused more on the social/sharing aspect and “discovery” of new movies), will continue to operate separately but will expand its services to digital delivery.

According to Warner Bros, Flixster hosts over 25 million users per month (although Compete.com has them at about 1 million uniques per month). The social movie site was founded in 2005 and has been the parent company of Rotten Tomatoes since January, 2010.

Warner will use Flixster to drive initiatives such as the consumer application “Digital Everywhere” which will allow users to view and manage their digital content.

“We’re thrilled that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group shares our vision for how ‘anytime, anywhere’ digital entertainment can become an amazing user experience,” said Joe Greenstein, co-founder and CEO of Flixster.
