Reid Sullivan, VP Marketing, at Samsung said of the partnership, “Samsung presents a new value proposition for Blu-ray players by positioning it as a portal to a world of engaging digital content, be it Blu-ray discs, movies from Netflix or other online content.”
Both the BD-P2550 and BD-P2500 are native 1080p and stocked with the HQV (Hollywood Quality Video) processing chip. The players upconvert standard-def DVDs and provide BD Live support, and output 7.1 channel audio. The Samsung BD-P2550 is normally priced higher than the BD-P2500, but the press release says both players are not priced at $399 MSRP.
LG recently released its LG BD300 Blu-ray Disc player which was the first on the market to also offer Netflix streaming capability. The LG BD300 also retails for $399.
