Samsung Blue-Ray / HD-DVD Combo Officially Announced

The Duo HD BD-UP5000 will have full support for HD-DVD, including support for HDi.

Following LG’s dual-format player, this announcement could make the Samsung player the second such player available, assuming another manufacturer doesn’t beat the Duo HD BD-UP-5000 to market.

With the number of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD discs available still fairly low, and no clear winner between the formats, dual-format players may be the standard for a while.

The date of release and price are still open to speculation.
