With the high price of HD equipment, more people are clicking on spam emails and pop-ups with the hope of landing a high priced flat panel or projection TV for free. You saw the same thing happening when the iPod first got popular. I can’t tell you how many times I deleted “Claim Your FREE iPOD” emails from my spam folder.
Now comes the XBox 360, HDTV and HD radio scams. But what the hell? It’s worth the shot. I recently completed a survey for a chance to win a plasma television. Someone has to win right?
From research into both the marketing companies and the poor saps (like me) that actually have bitten the lure, I found for the most part they are valid offers. But you have to literally jump through rings of fire to finally get the product.
Wouldn’t it be better to spend some time doing something else? Or making some more money so you can just purchase one? You are going to end up paying for it in one way or another. I guess there are those that have plenty of time to explore these marketing schemes.
I just hope when I win my 42″ plasma that the shipping is paid for.
