Whether you’ve already watched The Crown Season Two on Netflix and want a hard copy, or are anxiously awaiting the second season on disc, we are just two months away from the announced release date of Nov. 13, 2018.
Unfortunately, The Crown Season Two will only get a 1080p disc release (not Ultra HD Blu-ray) so watching on Netflix is actually a superior presentation in terms of video resolution, but having seen Season One on Blu-ray it’s no slack.
The Blu-ray displays The Crown episodes at 2.00:1 aspect ratio (its original ratio shot on a RED system) with digital intermediates mastered in 4k. Sound is provided in 24-bit DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 with subtitles in eleven languages including English SDH.
Fans of the show get the most bonus material on the Blu-ray edition with featurettes “The Royal Rules of Etiquette,” “Horses & Hounds: The Queen’s Companions” and BD-exclusive “Fact or Fiction with Robert Lacey: Breaking Down the Pivotal Scandals.” There’s also a digital gallery with set photography.
The Crown is one the better shows on Netflix, and in a way, has taken the baton from the ground breaking political drama House of Cards that will premiere its sixth season in November (minus Kevin Spacey playing the role of Francis Underwood).
With beautiful cinematography, excellent film editing, and incredible performances by John Lithgow as Winston Churchill and Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, The Crown not only looks good but is well deserving of the two Golden Globe awards won last year.
There are also great performances by Matt Smith as the Duke of Edinburgh, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Victoria Hamilton as the Queen Mother among the well-casted series that lists over 375 actors appearing in at least one episode. That number, however, is easily trumped by Game of Thrones’ 736 credited cast members.
The Crown: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray has an MSRP of $55.99 and the DVD $45.99. Pre-order from Amazon and pay the lowest price upon ship date.
