Roku and Hitachi are partnering to build HD and 4K Ultra HD TV models with the Roku Smart TV OS. The new Roku TVs will start shipping this fall in a variety of screen sizes (exact sizes were not given in their press release), with access to the Roku streaming channel store and search and discovery apps.
Roku says that in 2015 Roku TV had more than 40 models available with sales accounting for 8% of the U.S. Smart TV market. In 2016, over 60 Roku TV models are expected to ship in the U.S. this fall with screen sizes ranging from 24 to 65 inches.
“Roku offers us everything we need in a smart TV solution – a cost-effective way to produce great TVs that run a powerful operating system,” said Bill Whalen, Director for Hitachi.
Roku TV brands include Hair, Hisense, Hitachi, Insignia, Sharp, and TCL.
