At the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco today Sony confirmed that PlayStation VR will be released in October 2016 and sell for $399 US. The price does not appear to include a PlayStation camera that lists for $59.99 (although currently $44.08 at Amazon), so with tax you’re looking at an investment of around $475-$500 if you don’t already have a PS Camera. That’s not all that bad considering Oculus Rift is priced at $599 and HTC Vive at $799.
The PlayStation VR set has a 5.7″ OLED display with 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) resolution. Frame refresh rate runs at 120 Hz consistently with latency less than 18ms. The field of view is approximately 100 degrees, which should be around the same as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, expected to be from 100 – 110 degrees.
