‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Blu-ray & Digital Release Dates Announced

Star-Wars-The-Force-Awakens-Blu-ray-slicover-front Disney has officially announced the release dates for Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray Disc and Digital HD. The home media formats are arriving much quicker than one would have thought, with Digital HD releasing first on April 1st (could it be a joke?), followed only four days later by Blu-ray on April 5th.

We haven’t seen an official date for the DVD release (one would think the same day as Blu-ray), or an announcement of an Ultra HD Blu-ray edition for 4k TVs (after all, Sony has several UHD BDs available). But the 2-disc Blu-ray edition does come with a DVD copy for playing in the car, laptop, or wherever else a BD player isn’t available.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray will come with an English DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 soundtrack, underscoring video formatted in 1080p at 2.39:1 aspect ratio.

Extras will include a full-length making-of documentary and exclusive deleted scenes. (See more extras below.)

The 2-disc Blu-ray edition from Disney/Buena Vista will also come with a Digital HD copy redeemable with either UltraViolet or iTunes.

Disney is also expected to release a 3D Blu-ray edition of the film, although we don’t have any confirmation of artwork or price yet.
