New TV Shows and Movies Streaming on Netflix

What’s new and streaming on Netflix? You might start with the entire second season of the original series “Hemlock Grove” (TV-MA) that may have kept some viewers up late night all weekend. But “Hemlock Grove” is not for all audiences, even grownups might get a bit squeamish during some scenes. The series is executive-produced by horror film director Eli Roth and stars former Bond girl and X-Men star Famke Janssen.

Other age-restricted films that have just been added to Netflix streaming include Homefront (R) starring Jason Statham and James Franco; Lawless (R) starring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy, and XXX: State of the Union (R) starring Ice Cube, Willem Defoe, and Samuel L. Jackson. There’s also the unrated Johnny Knoxville film Bad Grandpa .5 (UR) — but you can probably guess the film is intended for mature audiences.

Let’s mention a few titles that are more family friendly, including Smurfs 2 (PG) with voiceovers from Hank Azaria and Neil Patrick Harris; the 1999 Disney animated film Tarzan (G) with Tony Goldwyn and Minnie Driver providing voiceovers; and the classic 80’s film Honey I Shrunk the Kids (PG) starring Rick Moranis as scientist Wayne Szalinski.

Added TV series include the animated “Marvel’s Avengers Assemble” (TV-Y7) with 26 episodes available to stream; last year’s entire 10-episode season of Witches of East End (TV-14), and the documentary series “Forgotten Planet” (TV-PG) about buildings and cities that have been abandoned and forgotten.

Remember, if you’re concerned about your kids unintentionally watching age-restricted material, you can set each family member’s profile to show age appropriate content only. Just go to your Netflix Profile settings.
