Deadline reports Discovery Channel has given the greenlight to a scripted TV miniseries “Klondike” (working title) about the Klondike Gold Rush of 1895. The series will be co-produced by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Television, along with Entertainment One and Nomadic Pictures. The series will be about six strangers who end up in the frontier town of Klondike where they struggle to find riches amidst the challenges of the landscape and rush of gold prospectors.
“Klondike was the last great gold rush; one which triggered a flood of prospectors ill-equipped, emotionally or otherwise, for the extreme and grueling conditions of the remote Yukon wilderness,” said Ridley Scott.
The announcement of “Klondike” follows the success of Discovery’s documentary series “Gold Rush,” currently in its third season. “Gold Rush” can be seen on Fridays at 9:00 pm ET/8:00 CST.
