VUDU will soon have five films boasting Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound, when Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides gets added on Nov. 15. Yeah, it’s a modest number. But, you’ve got to start somewhere. The 7.1 audio is available in VUDU’s HDX 1080p “True Digital” format, a superior digital video running at 24 frames-per-second.
The four films VUDU currently has queued up in HDX with Dolby Digital 7.1 include Cars 2, Toy Story 3, The Tree of Life and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Purchasing the HDX movie isn’t cheap, a title in HDX or HD will run you $19.99. Although, strangely enough The Tree of Life is only available to buy in SD, but with 7.1 surround. The HD quality is the same price at $19.99, but, a much quicker download than its 1080p sibling.
You can also rent the titles in HDX, HD, and SD formats. The highest quality HDX format costs around $5.99 for 24-hours. HD quality is usually a buck less.
