DirecTV drops G4 channel

This week DirecTV dropped popular tech/geek channel G4, after the satco determined the channel’s audience wasn’t large enough to justify continued carriage. G4 owner Comcast extended the contract with DirecTV through October, even though DirecTV said they planned to drop it in September. According to sources G4 customers cost DirecTV about five cents a month per subscriber.

DirecTV Chief Executive Mike White is evaluating DirecTV channels in order to cut programming costs down. Unfortunately, G4 was on the hit list. G4 caters to a young male audience with a mix of gadget news, video game resources, and tech convention coverage. We’ll miss G4 host Olivia Munn and the rest of the G4 crew but the network is still available through other providers including Dish Network, AT&T’s U-verse, Verizon FiOS and many cable companies.

  1. First of all we should have a moment of silence because Olivia Munn is no longer on AOTS…… But on to better news, DISH Network is keeping G4 so you can still see all of our gaming shows on channel 191 in beautiful high definition. As an employee I was happy when I heard that DISH was keeping the channel, and is also offering over 200 HD channels.
