Disc replicator Cinram said it’s on track for “Q4” (fourth quarter) 2007 delivery of Total HD Discs (THD) , the dual sided, dual format (Blu-Ray/HD-DVD) solution dreamed up by Warner Bros. Speaking at the IRMA Recording Media Forum, Cinram senior director Dominick DallaVerde said that by June, his company will have a version ready of the THD with a 15GB-HD-DVD backed by a 25GB Blu-Ray. A couple months later – maybe even before WB introduces the THD concept in products – Cinram also expects to offer a combi disc with a dual layer 30GB HD-DVD on one side and a 25GB Blu-Ray on the other.
DallaVerde said that there’s “no change, no degradation, in signal quality” with THD discs, actually a sandwich of two separately pressed discs bonded together . Cinram already produces single and dual layer HD-DVD “flipper” discs that have a standard DVD version of the movie on the other side. WB and Universal have put out a bunch of flippers , though for the future WB will be putting all its weight behind THD.
