It had been months that Warner Bros. was searching for the right director and writer to take on Suicide Squad 2, but they found the right person in Gavin O’Connor.
O’Connor directed The Accountant (2016) starring Ben Affleck, as well as Pride and Glory (2008) and Warrior (2011).
Previously, Warner Bros. was courting 2-time Oscar winner Mel Gibson (Braveheart, Hacksaw Ridge) to direct the film, as well as The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra.
Suicide Squad 2 is slated to release in 2019. Jared Leto (The Joker) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) are listed as cast members, but noted as rumored.
