Launched in 2006, the original mission of HD Report was to provide high-def enthusiasts with a resource for news and information about HDTVs and HD programming. The launch of digital channels and the subsequent death of analog TV was a seachange in the industry, allowing 720p/1080i broadcast feeds and subchannels along the digital spectrum. Now, we’re seeing 4k (2160p) broadcasts increasing in some parts of the world (even though 1080p never really made it to broadcast in the US) and state-of-the-art audio formats such as Dolby Atmos included in live broadcasts. In the streaming world, Full HD (1080p) is commonplace where internet speeds allow. And, state-of-the-art video formats including Dolby Vision HDR (with HD and 4k UHD resolutions) and Dolby Atmos or Dolby 5.1 surround sound audio are pretty much the norm. We’ve come a long way in home theater since 2006!
