Sony announced in a blog post they would be dropping Viacom-owned channels such as Comedy Central, Spike, and MTV on November 11th starting at 12:01am ET.
According to PlayStation Vue VP Dwayne Benefield, they “have determined that removing the bundle of channels from Viacom is the best way for us to continue to offer the most compelling value to our fans.”
But while the Viacom channels were dropped some new channels were added. BBC America, NBA TV and VICE have been added to the Vue lineup, and in the future Sony promises more local broadcast stations from CBS and Fox will be added.
This year, PlayStation Vue has also added channels such as ESPN, ABC, NFL Network and HBO to the lineup.
Reviews are mixed from PS Vue customers. One comment posted on Sony’s blog said “Whelp, guess I should start looking for a new streaming service, and I’ve only been on Vue for a few months.”
Other subscribers sympathized with Sony’s decision: “Sports programming pays the bills, Sony knows how many people (don’t) watch the Viacom channels,” said another customer.
