Here’s a question we get a lot about 4k resolution. Is 2160p the same as 4k?
The answer is, yes! When referring to 3840 x 2160 resolution for home theater the industry standard used is “4k,” altough “Ultra HD” is more appropriate for the 16 x 9 format found in 4k UHD TVs.
In the film industry, the 4k DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) is actually over 4,000 pixels at 4096 × 2160 (full frame) with other slight variations. In digital television (DTV), streaming, and Ultra HD disc standards 4k is slightly less at 3840 x 2160. Although the resolutions may vary slightly, 4k refers to a horizontal resolution of about 4,000 pixels.
In home applications, Ultra HD TVs and Ultra HD Blu-ray discs have a resolution of 3840 x 2160, while digital projectors may be slightly wider at 4096 x 2160, although actualy viewing size may differ according to projection installation.
