Streaming service HBO Max launched in April 2020 but it wasn’t until December 2020 that the service offered 4k UHD with the premiere of Wonder Woman 1984. Dolby Vision is a propriety HDR format that can change dynamically from scene to scene during playback. HDR10 is an open-source format that loads upon the startup of a video stream but does not change. The newest version of the format named HDR10+, however, fixes that limitation. HDR (which stands for High Dynamic Range) is a video specification that increases color depth on content, devices, and screens that support it.
HBO Max also offers Dolby Atmos audio on select titles. Dolby Atmos is an object-based audio format that can deliver immersive, multi-channel audio including overhead effects. Read: How to Get Dolby Atmos on HBO Max
