Does the HBO Max streaming service offer Dolby Atmos audio? Yes, it does!
HBO Max launched in April 2020 but it wasn’t until December 2020 that the service offered streaming 4k UHD, Dolby Vision HDR, and Dolby Atmos with the premiere of Wonder Woman 1984. Dolby Atmos is an object-based audio format that can deliver immersive, multi-channel audio including overhead effects.
To get Dolby Atmos, you’ll need a sound system, receiver, or TV that supports Atmos. Read: How to Get Dolby Atmos on HBO Max
Unfortunately, the premium cable and satellite versions of HBO don’t offer Atmos audio.
HBO Max also offers Dolby Vision HDR. Dolby Vision is a propriety HDR (High Dynamic Range) format that can change dynamically from scene to scene during playback. HDR10 is an open-source format that loads upon the startup of a video stream but does not change. Both formats increase color depth on content, devices, and screens that support HDR.
