DISH launches Social app for Hopper

Dish Hopper Social App On Now Feed

DISH Network has launched Social, a new app for the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR that lets customers converse with friends on the television screen. When logged in, the app displays social feeds from your Twitter and Facebook accounts (up to four accounts each can be linked). The app gives you full Twitter functions, enabling you to create new tweets, “Favorite” a tweet, reply and retweet. With Facebook, you can post status updates and have the option to use pre-drafted templates.

In addition to your social feeds displayed on the right side of the screen (see image above), the app also displays a Now Watching bar at the bottom of the screen with information about what you’re viewing. The bar also includes live social statistics from viewers nationwide.

You can access the Social app via the Hopper “quick launch” bar (using the blue button on your remote).

“Last year, Twitter saw 32 million Americans tweet about TV programming, an incredible display of consumer interest in wanting a more social experience from TV,” said Jimshade Chaudhari, director of product marketing and management at DISH.
