‘God of War: Ascension’ to include multiplayer

We're getting some juicy new nuggets about the recently announced God of War: Ascension, with the main one being the inclusion of multiplayer for the first time ever in a God of War game. Game director Todd Papy talked in length (see video here) this morning about the changes he and his Sony Santa Monica Studios team are making to the PlayStation franchise, including adapting the game engine for eight-player matches on five to seven maps. Series star Kratos will not be playable online, but of course he's the focus of the single player campaign, as this prequel seeks to shed light on just why he became so angry.

Providence Equity to sell Hulu shares

Providence Equity Partners Inc. will sell off their 10% share in Hulu to Walt Disney Co., Comcast Corp, and News Corp for about $200 million, according to an article from Bloomberg. The online streaming TV show and movie service currently has about 2 million subscribers that pay $7.99 a month for unlimited usage (the same Netflix charges).

NBA 2012 Playoffs Opening Weekend Schedule

Here's the NBA playoff schedule for this weekend, starting with Chicago vs. Philadelphia at 1 p.m. Eastern on Saturday. TNT will be broadcasting the first game, followed by Miami vs. New York at 3:30 p.m. on ABC.

Detroit’s Calvin Johnson lands ‘Madden 13’ cover

In a surprising final vote by the fans, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson beat out Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton for the right to grace the Madden 13 cover later this summer. Nearly 20 million votes were cast throughout the seven week voting process that saw Johnson, a no. 6 seed (yes, they seeded the players for this) beat out 31 other players, including Netwon by a 52%-48% margin. Both players took part in a Times Square ceremony to mark the occasion, and now Johnson now gets to try to survive the infamous Madden curse. The game is scheduled for an August 28 release.

EPIX announces original programming & upcoming movies

EPIX has announced new original programs which begin premiering this summer through fall 2012. There're a couple original documentaries including William Shatner’s Get a Life! premiering in July and Flight 800: A 14-Year Investigation Cracks the Case which premieres in September.

Skype app now available for PlayStation Vita

If you've got a portable PlayStation Vita you can now download an app to run Skype. The app lets you use Skype's voice and video chat features, and supports both the front and rear cameras of the Vita.

‘Mass Effect 3’ is $29.99 at Amazon today

The final (possibly) chapter in the Commander Sheppard's great space saga can be yours today for 50% off. As Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day, Mass Effect 3 for Xbox 360, PS3, or Windows is going for just $29.99 through midnight Pacific time. It's a great deal for a game that was just released in March and was the #1 selling game that month. Of course the game's infamous ending has upset many people, but we're not about to spoil that for you.
