We’re getting some juicy new nuggets about the recently announced God of War: Ascension, with the main one being the inclusion of multiplayer for the first time ever in a God of War game. Game director Todd Papy talked in length (see video here) this morning about the changes he and his Sony Santa Monica Studios team are making to the PlayStation franchise, including adapting the game engine for eight-player matches on five to seven maps. Series star Kratos will not be playable online, but of course he’s the focus of the single player campaign, as this prequel seeks to shed light on just why he became so angry.
If you’re a fan of films from the late 60’s this is must-have boxed set and a heck-of-a deal. Criterion Collection’s America Lost and Found: The BBS Story packs 7 classic films from BBS Productions between 1968 and 1972.
Providence Equity Partners Inc. will sell off their 10% share in Hulu to Walt Disney Co., Comcast Corp, and News Corp for about $200 million, according to an article from Bloomberg. The online streaming TV show and movie service currently has about 2 million subscribers that pay $7.99 a month for unlimited usage (the same Netflix charges). With that many subscribers, why sell of shares of a growing company? And, if content creators such as Disney and News Corp (20th Century Fox) can distribute their own content digitally, one might ask why the need for a middle man like Netflix? We don’t know the details, however, an analyst indicated that Hulu is more of a long term investment that might not be suitable for Providence. Providence Equity Partners Inc., based in Rhode Island, initially invested $100 million into the joint-owned company in 2007. Currently, Disney, News Corp. and NBC Universal hold about 27% of shares each, with company employees holding about 10%.

In a surprising final vote by the fans, Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson beat out Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton for the right to grace the Madden 13 cover later this summer. Nearly 20 million votes were cast throughout the seven week voting process that saw Johnson, a no. 6 seed (yes, they seeded the players for this) beat out 31 other players, including Netwon by a 52%-48% margin. Both players took part in a Times Square ceremony to mark the occasion, and now Johnson now gets to try to survive the infamous Madden curse. The game is scheduled for an August 28 release.

New TV shows this month include “The Whitest Kids U’ Know,” “Doctor Who (Seasons 1-6/2005-2011),” and “Cold Blood: Season 1 and 3.” Although, there are a few new movies in the lineup including “Daddy Day Care,” “Donnie Darko,” and “Everything Must Go.” And, plenty of concerts have recently been added such as “David Byrne: Ride, Rise, Roar,” and “Ike & Tina Turner: Live in ’71.” See below for a few of our picks this month. We tried to note which titles are available in HD.
Predictions coming from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo indicate Apple may do away with the 17-inch MacBook pro in favor of a hybrid MacBook Pro that would combine the performance of the Pro with the portability of the MacBook Air. Kuo’s predictions stem from sales estimates that predict the 17-inch MacBook Pro will sell only 50,000 units compared to 1.5 million units of the 13-inch model and .5 million units of the 15-inch model. Given those estimates, it might make sense to kill the larger, less popular MacBook Pro (although you might consider less units are sold given the model’s higher sticker price). Even if the predictions are true, we’re not really sure what a hybrid model would look like. A 17″ Air would be way too flimsy. A 15-inch MacBook Pro is already more portable in comparison. Although, a solid state laptop with a larger 15″ display would certainly be tempting. (Of course, it’s probably not feasible given the higher cost of solid state drives.) What do you think? Will Apple kill one of the MacBook Pro models?

Hulu has announced the addition of four new TV shows (streaming over the internet) to their programming lineup. The new shows include “The Awesomes,” “Don’t Quit Your Daydream,” “Flow,” and “We Got Next.” “We Got Next” is scheduled to start this year, while “The Awesomes” is slated to premiere in 2013. Hulu had already announced other new original shows such as “Battleground,” and “A Day in the Life.” The new shows clearly reflect where Hulu is now focusing their attention (as opposed to a year ago when they there trying to sell it off.) Who knows, maybe Hulu will someday have as many TV shows as NBC, FOX and the other big networks.

A video posted on YouTube shows you what “Battlefield 5” would look like through Google Glasses (officially called Project Glass). Project Glass essentially allows the display of information through augmented reality glasses — and possibly in the future any type of eyewear. That data, presently, is the same as what is delivered to smartphones running Android. Project Glass products are also voice activated.
Sure, you may have finished the fight in the trilogy, and then went back to the prequel to see how it all started (and um, then the next prequel), but did you really think this cash cow of a franchise would fade away? Of course not. Microsoft and 343 Industries have officially announced that Halo 4 will launch worldwide on Tuesday, November 6, for the Xbox 360. Set four years after the events in Halo 3, Master Chief returns to confront his destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe.
