True or False? The Real Story Behind No Man’s Sky’s Biggest Rumors

No Man's Sky 3

The highly-controversial No Man’s Sky is still generating a lot of online discussions, and with those discussions comes quite a few rumors. With so much information coming from so many sources, it can be hard to tell which of these rumors are actually true and which were made up for someone’s amusement.

To help you separate truth from fact, we’ve rounded up a few of the most popular No Man’s Sky rumors in an effort to clear the confusion once and for all.

Rumor: Steam Will Refund Your Purchase of No Man’s Sky Even If You’ve Played More Than Two Hours

Status: Mostly False

This rumor seems to have started on Reddit as one user there claims that Steam’s support team gave them a refund for their No Man’s Sky purchase even though they had played it for longer than two hours (which is typically the cut-off time for Steam refunds). Soon, others were sharing similar experiences.

A little further digging reveals that most of these refunds were granted as special exceptions by the Steam support staff, but Steam is not extending their refund policy as they have done with other games in the past. It’s worth noting, though, that some gamers have had success in getting refunds from Sony if they digitally purchased the game on PS4, and it may be worth asking Steam to make an exception in your case if you are desperate.

Rumor: Your Discoveries In No Man’s Sky Reset After A Certain Time Period

Status: False

One No Man’s Sky user reported that nearly everything they had discovered in the game up was recently wiped from their save data without explanation. This led to some speculation that the developers were removing player’s progress from the servers in an effort to hide the small size of the game and make everything feel like it’s been undiscovered.

The truth is not quite so devious. As it turns out, there were some issues with the game’s servers that caused certain pieces of information for some users to temporarily not display properly. This is, apparently, still occurring from time to time, but is not intentional.

Rumor: Those Giant Creatures Shown In The No Man’s Sky Trailer Really Are In The Game

Status: True

Gamers are slowly starting to discover that certain features that were promised to be included in No Man’s Sky aren’t actually in the game after all. For instance, while far from the biggest missing feature, many players have begun to speculate that the giant dinosaur-like creatures shown in the game’s trailers aren’t in the final release.

As it turns out, they are just very rare. Several videos have appeared online that prove these creatures are in the un-modded version of the game. The catch is that they are incredibly hard to find and are recognized by the in-game tracking system as being much smaller than they really are.
