It’s a great week for new Blu-ray Disc releases, but we can’t cover every new title. So here’s a look at our choice picks for the week, along with an extended list of suggested titles below.
Disney’s animated film Aladdin (1992) is finally available on high-definition Blu-ray in the US. The Diamond Edition features a supporting audio track in DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 under 1080p video formatted in MPEG-4/AVC at 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Along with new bonus material, the two-disc edition includes a DVD and Digital HD copy (via iTunes or Google Play). Target and Best Buy have their own exclusive releases of the Blu-ray edition.
Mad Men: The Final Season, Part 2 has released to a two-disc edition from Lionsgate. The second installment includes seven episodes (8-14) that aired from April to May of this year. The BD is formatted in MPEG-4/AVC (1080p) with a 1.78:1 aspect ratio and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. Lionsgate has also released the 23-disc Mad Men: The Complete Collection with booklet, shot glasses, and Digital HD copies of each episode.
San Andreas is now available on Blu-ray Disc, formatted in 1080p at 2.40:1 widescreen aspect ratio with a 24-bit Dolby TrueHD 7.1 soundtrack. There’s quite a bit of bonus material on San Andreas including deleted scenes, gag reel, stunt reel, director commentary, and several featurettes. The two-disc edition from Warner Home Video includes a Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD copy with UltraViolet.
And, Disney has also released this year’s family adventure film Tomorrowland starring George Clooney and Hugh Laurie. The Blu-ray is formatted in MPEG-4/AVC with a seven-channel DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 audio track. Like this week’s Aladdin release, the two-disc edition includes a Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD copy with iTunes or Google Play.
