The Hunger Games has been given an official release date of August 18, 2012 for Blu-ray, DVD, On Demand and Digital Download formats. Take note, the 18th is a Friday and not a standard release date for discs, but rather follows in the footsteps of the Harry Potter midnight releases which Warner Bros. had success with. That means at Midnight on Friday, August 17, you can expect some retailers to open just to sell copies of the film. The Blu-ray Disc and DVD editions from Lionsgate each contain two-discs with over three hours of bonus materials, as well as digital copies of the film. The Hunger Games is now available to pre-order. [Confirmed: An UltraViolet Digital Copy will be included with the Blu-ray edition.]
The Hunger Games Blu-ray discs are formatted in 1080P at 16×9 Widescreen (2.40:1) with a choice of 7.1 DTS HD-MA audio or 2.0 Dolby Digital (Optimized for Late Night Listening). The DVDs are formatted in 16×9 Widescreen (2.40:1) with a choice of 5.1 Dolby Digital EX 2.0 Dolby Digital (also Optimized for Late Night Listening). Lionsgate officially announced the release date of The Hunger Games on May 23, 2012. See below for bonus features included:
