Reelz Channel premieres The Kennedys tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. The new TV miniseries follows the Kennedy family and the complex relationships between them. The first episode revolves around Jack Kennedy as his political career takes off under the guidance of his father Joe Kennedy Sr., while meeting his soon-to-be wife Jacqueline who has to come to terms with his infidelities.
History Channel describes the series as told in a manner similar to The Godfather, but cuts from the past to the present are really the only quality the two share. While The Godfather is a masterpiece of filmmaking (arguably the best of all time), The Kennedys‘ substance, timing, and dialogue are more inline with a TV drama rather than Coppola’s most well known work.
However, anyone interested in the drama of the Kennedy legacy will be delighted with the casting, historical references, and costumes which were meticulously rendered from photographic references of the Kennedy years.
The Kennedys stars Greg Kinnear as Jack Kennedy (JFK), Barry Pepper as Bobby Kennedy, Tom Wilkinson as Joe Kennedy Sr., and Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy.
The TV series will span one week with the 2-hour finale airing on Sunday night, April 10. If you miss the premiere on tonight, Reelz Channel will rebroadcast The Kennedys on Monday night at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT.
