Playstation 3 drops $50 for the day

Amazon dropped the price of the Playstation 3 as part of its “GoldBox” deals. The PS3 80GB system is going for $349 (a savings of $50) and will last for the rest of the day. The system includes a Dualshock 3 wireless controller, Playstation 3 Network membership, and is internet ready.

Will a permanent price drop happen this year? Back in December there were reports of Sony reducing production costs. And, although the reductions may come at a price (reduced number of USB inputs and loss of PS2 compatibility), the console will be sure to sell more units. Some analysts predict the PS3 will drop $100 in April.
