Comcast adds HD channels

Comcast will be launching a standalone HD channel for E! Television in December, as well as splitting the The Golf Channel and Versus, which have been sharing an HD channel but will soon have their own channels. This according to an article from Multichannel News.

The Golf Channel HD will feature PGA Tour events, while the Versus HD network will broadcast NFL games and the Tour de France. The new high-definition E! channel will include red-carpet events and original programming in HD.

Comcast has taken some criticism regarding the quality of their HD broadcasts. Without the available bandwidth, any service provider can compress high-definition data to squeeze in more programming. An article from Multichannel News from March ’08 describes the process.
